EDUCATION
The following projects are a representation of our firm’s experience:
Harbor City International School, Duluth, MN
Harbor City Charter school occupies three floors of the Historic Duluth Plumbing Supply, an industrial building, once used as a warehouse in the central business district of Duluth. During Phase I, Scalzo Architects partnered with Design Share and the school’s Executive Director to design the space which would house 9th and 10th grades.
Marshall School, Duluth MN
Marshall School had developed a plan to improve the lobby entrance; to open up the floor plan and create a café, seating area. The walkway links lack energy efficiency and want to participate in a rebate program. Scalzo Architects collaborated with Joe Houle, Operations Supervisor for Marshall School, in the design that is now functional as well as warm and welcoming. The renovation of the walkway links to improve energy savings provided a design
challenge related to security and egress. Scalzo Architects worked closely with the local building official, Fire Marshall and the State Fire Marshall to accomplish the security required and allow for the appropriate egress from the enclosed exterior courtyard.
Queen of Peace Catholic School, Cloquet, MN
Investigation resulting in a a roof truss failure; provided services for the re-construction and renovation to comply with current life safety code and accessibility requirements. Obtained State Fire Marshall approval for temporary use of an used basement area of the school. An aggressive one month timeline for remodeling of the space occurred for the space to be ready for students on the first day of school.
